Leave the A1(M) at its junction with the A689 - (Junction 60) signposted for Bishop Auckland and Hartlepool.

After leaving the motorway take the first exit towards Bishop Auckland and follow the A689.

At the fourth roundabout, you should be at the junction of the A689 and the A688 - signposted Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor.

Take the third exit for the A688 towards Spennymoor, and after approximately 2 miles you will come to a LEFT turn signposted to Binchester (opposite a TOTAL Service Station). There is a large white/brown tourist sign to Binchester Roman Fort. Turn left here and you will find FIVE GABLES approximately 300yds from this junction on the left.
