Take the A68 south from the A69 towards Darlington through Castleside & Tow Law.

Just after Tow Law you will come to a sharp right-hand bend on the A68 with a junction to the left signposted to Willington. Turn left here & follow this road until you come to the A690 at Willington. Turn left and follow the A690 through Willington towards Durham.

As you leave Willington you will see a right-hand turn signposted to Byers Green, Newfield & Binchester (2¾ miles). There is also a brown/white tourist sign to Binchester Roman Fort. Turn right here and follow the road until you reach Binchester. [DO NOT FOLLOW THE SIGNS TO BINCHESTER ROMAN FORT AT THE NEXT X-ROADS]

Go past the village green (on your right) and at the end of the last terrace of houses there is a cul-de-sac to your right. Turn right here and you will see FIVE GABLES in front of you
