Take the M6 to Penrith (Junction 40) then the A66 to Brough & Bowes.

At Bowes leave the A66 and take the A67 to Barnard Castle then the A688 from Barnard Castle - signposted Bishop Auckland/ Durham.

Follow the A688 towards Bishop Auckland/ Spennymoor/Durham and once you have reached Bishop Auckland you will be on a by-pass at the end of which you will come to a roundabout at the junction of the A688 and A689 (Hartlepool).

Continue ahead on the A688 towards Spennymoor/Durham and after approximately 2 miles you will come to a LEFT turn signposted to Binchester (almost opposite a TOTAL Service Station). There is also a white/brown tourist sign to Binchester Roman Fort. Turn left here and you will find FIVE GABLES approximately 300yds from this junction on the left.
