Leave the Market Place one-way system past the entrance to Auckland Castle on left. After 50yds go left downhill at T junction, and follow this road [A 689 - Durham Road] uphill until reaching a roundabout. Take first exit from roundabout signposted A688 to Spennymoor & Durham Continue ahead on the A688 towards Spennymoor & Durham.

Pass a BP Service Station on left, Top House Pub & Park Head Hotel on right. Approx. one mile from here you will come to a LEFT turn signposted to Willington/Newfield/Byers Green/Binchester (just after a TOTAL Service Station on right). There is also a white/brown tourist sign to Binchester Roman Fort pointing to the left. Turn left here and you will find FIVE GABLES approximately 300yds from this junction on the left.
