Take the A698 towards Crook & Durham. At Crook keep straight ahead at the traffic lights in the town centre towards Willington & Durham. Follow the A690 to and through Willington.

As you leave Willington on the A690 towards Durham, you will see a right-hand turn signposted to Byers Green, Newfield & Binchester (2¾ miles). There is also a brown/white tourist sign to Binchester Roman Fort.

Turn right here and follow the road until you reach Binchester.[DO NOT FOLLOW THE SIGNS TO BINCHESTER ROMAN FORT AT THE NEXT X-ROADS] Go past the village green (on your right) and at the end of the last terrace of houses there is a cul-de-sac to your right. Turn right here and you will see FIVE GABLES house in front of you and FIVE GABLES COTTAGE on the right.
